Survival Day Broadcast - 40th Anniversary of Aboriginal Tent Embassy

Tune in to 3CR from 12 -6pm on Thursday January 26th for special broadcasting to mark the 40th Anniversary of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in Canberra. Established on the lawns of Old Parliament House in January 1972, the embassy has been a focal point for the struggle for Aboriginal rights. Later in the afternoon, some 3CR legends will return to the airwaves for a one-off music special to acknowledge this historic occasion. At 4pm Johnny Mac will bring you hip-hop and R‘n’B followed by Kutcha Edwards from 5pm and his unique blend of music and storytelling.

Freedom Fighters Commemorated

TunnerminnerwaitOn 20 January 1842 Tunnerminnerwait and Maulboyheenner - two Indigenous freedom fighters - were executed on the corner of Bowen and Franklin Streets in Melbourne. A quarter of Victoria's white population came in carnival mood to see the killings. Join us on Friday 20 January from 12 noon to 1pm for a live broadcast to commemorate the execution of Tunnerminnerwait and Maulboyheenner and to call for the creation of a significant monument on the site they were executed.
